House design in Australia’s sunshine state, Queensland, is shaped by an enviable climate.  Year round warmth and sunshine mean that terraces and courtyards function as additional ‘rooms’ right throughout the year.  An easy flow between interior and exterior living spaces is essential.

A Brisbane house designed by Geoff Tyson of Tyson Design Studio for Chris and Kay Woodhouse and their family is typical of the big open style of Queensland living. It’s a handsome family home with plenty of space for a teenage family. It’s also a showhome for the fine timber products sold by Chris’s business, Woodhouse Timber Company.

Woodhouse Timber imports and distributes building and renovation products to timber merchants, building materials outlets, and truss and wall frame manufacturers, from warehouses in Queensland and New South Wales.

“Chris wanted to showcase as many of the products he sells as possible,” Geoff Tyson says. Geoff welcomed the opportunity. “I like to use timber, it is a natural product with such character and warmth.”

New Zealand manufactured pine was used extensively throughout the Woodhouse home.

“We used it for architraves, skirtings, fascias, timber screens, fencing, and roof and ceiling framing,” Geoff says. He was impressed at its performance and the finish achieved.

“I really learnt a lot through working with the New Zealand product on Chris and Kay’s house. I was impressed by it. It was dressed and finished well, and the builder found it very easy to work with, very straight and true. It has very good structural integrity, it really holds its form. And it painted up beautifully.”

As a designer of quality homes, Geoff liked working with the quality New Zealand manufactured pine products.

“New Zealander's are really industry leaders around the world for the quality of their pine products. People need to know just how good it is.”
